Mountain Activities

Adventure Training North East's experienced Instructor Team love to share their passion for outdoor learning in the mountain environment. We offer a broad range of opportunities. Talk to us, we will be able to help.

Gorge descents or canyoning

Our Gorge Descent or Canyoning trip is one of our most popular activities. It takes place at Ash Ghyll near Garrigill in the North Pennines. It involves scrambling, pool jumps, slides and swims as you travel downstream in your helmet, wet suit and buoyancy aid. We have 14 tasks for you to attempt on an amazing journey (you can dip-out at any stage and simply meet us at the next task!).You are guaranteed to get wet, but you will be amazed at what you achieve! The final challenge; 'The Leap of Faith' will be an experience you will remember for a very long time!

Ghyll Scrambling

We use the rich variety and awesome splendour of the Lake District as our Ghyll Scrambling venue. This wonderful activity involves simple climbing up the rocky river bed of a mountain stream, often including waterfalls, gorges, rock step sand boulder fields. Try Grains Ghyll as a starter but save some energy for Sour Milk Ghyll in Borrowdale. A three star classic! We provide walking boots and helmets and a rope will always be available should it be required. The challenge is to stay dry! This activity is always hugely popular with clients.

Scrambling

Our scrambling days are again based in the Lake District. With such a fantastic variety of routes to choose from the possibilities are endless. Easy movement over rocky terrain on a Grade 1 route as an introduction (Scafell via Broad Crag) can lead to more challenging routes where a rope is used (Pinnacle Ridge on St Sunday Crag). Scrambling gives a fantastic mountain day and is an excellent progression for the experienced hill walker or 'would-be' climber. Easy climbing, brilliant scenery and real atmosphere guaranteed. Corporate groups, schools, youth groups, families and friends have all enjoyed this day.

In March 2016 a small group of students took part in a 2 day expedition with ATNE as part of our AS level PE practical assessment. Prior to this there were four training days in which we received high quality instruction on skills necessary to complete our expedition, including navigation, equipment use and basic survival skills. These skills proved invaluable in our assessment and will continue to do so throughout the rest of our lives. ATNE provided us with an enjoyable and insightful experience that helped us score very highly in our practical grades and will be remembered for years to come. Because of the experience and professionalism of the instructors at ATNE (Jon and Caroline) we have chosen to work with them again to be assessed on a three day expedition as part of our practical grade for A Level PE.
