Forest School First Aid

This is a 2 day (16 hours) course for Level 3 Forest School practitioners during which we cover all areas recommended by the Forest School Association (FSA).

Our instructor's are Level 4 Forest School qualification holders; they deliver dynamic courses that utilise their vast experience of delivering Forest School sessions to adults and young people. This makes our training more applicable and as a result candidates will be able to deal confidently and competently with a wide range of situations that could arise in Forest School.

This course is run simultaneously with the Outdoor First Aid course, candidates will receive the ITC Outdoor First Aid certificate and may opt to also gain the Forest School First Aid certificate for an additional £15.


£135 per candidate for the Outdoor First Aid certificate.

Additional £15 for Forest School First Aid certificate (optional).

This price includes the Outdoor First Aid book and certificate(s) valid for 3 years.


This is a popular First Aid training course, which we deliver at our Newcastle upon Tyne base, NE12 9SS.

We will be working outdoors for much of this course so please come dressed appropriately for the season.

Areas Covered

  • Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency with adults and children in the following situations;
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and using an AED
  • Treating an unconscious casualty (including seizure)
  • Wounds and bleeding and the use of Israeli bandages and tourniquets if appropriate
  • Shock
  • Minor injuries
  • Choking
  • Preventing cross infection, recording incidents and actions and the use of available equipment
  • Dealing with Fractures in the outdoors
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Crush and suspension trauma
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Bites and stings
  • The effects of extreme temperatures and treatments, including burns and scalds
  • Outdoor First Aid kits
  • Scenarios in woodland settings

All the above in an outdoor and remote context.


Candidates are continuously assessed on the their practical outdoor first aid skills throughout the course and for the SCQF course must complete a series of multiple choice questions to gain the qualification.
